FUNDRAISING WITH ALOHA DURING UNCERTAIN TIMES

This is a vulnerable and uncertain time for those we serve through our non-profit community.

YOU have an opportunity to be the light and provide hope for your constituents by building meaningful relationships with them during these vulnerable times. Here are 3 simple things you can do RIGHT NOW to show your Aloha and to Mahalo your donors so that they stick with you through the good times…and the bad.

1) PUT YOUR DONOR FIRST!

Send a “personal” email to your top constituents letting them know the proactive actions your organization is taking regarding COVID-19 AND thank them for their support. Here’s a great email that MANOA VALLEY THEATRE sent out yesterday. It was short, sweet, and showed they cared:

Aloha, “INSERT NAME”,

I hope the both of you are well!

I wanted to let you know that Manoa Valley Theatre is doing our best to ensure that we are keeping the health of our patrons as our top priority, especially as Opening Night rolls around for Desperate Measures. MVT has increased our cleaning procedures and disinfecting with extra vigor.

For now, the show will go on! But, we will continue to keep everyone updated should anything change. These are vulnerable times for us, but we continue to be grateful for friends like you who provide support to MVT throughout the year.

Take Care & see you soon,

Kip Wilborn
Executive Director

2) STAY CONFIDENT!

Fundraising might seem daunting now, but don’t forget, it’s all about meangingful relationships. Call your top supporters just to “check-in” with them, say thank you, and update them on your organization’s strategy for sustainability during this rocky time. Perhaps even ask them for their advice and insights. Most of your donors will appreciate that you are being forward thinking and will remain confident in you and your organization.

3) LOOK AT YOUR FUNDRAISING PLAN!

Now is the time to reassess your fundraising plan. Ensure that your fundraising plan includes various revenue streams, rather than simply relying on “special events” or “annual giving.” A healthy fund development program includes a comprehensive strategy that includes ways to expand and strengthen your reach. There is no substitute or shortcuts to strategic vision and implementation.

The fundamentals of fundraising is your key to success ~ it’s tried and true, even during these uncertain times. Do what your organization does best and share your stories of hope and continue to build those meaningful relationships with them! You and your donors will be glad you did!
